INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH CENTER (IRC), a Research Facility of international standards, was established in 2014 to carry out advanced research in the broad areas of materials science, energy and computing. In the first phase, a center focusing on research in the areas of materials including nanomaterials was established at a cost of Rs. 5 crores. Scientists with post-doctoral research experience from leading universities abroad were recruited for establishing their research in advanced areas of material science. Training programs and workshops are being organized regularly for research scholars in the focused areas of materials characterization and analysis.
IRC also houses an Advanced Instrumentation Facility with state-of-the-art equipment for characterization of materials. The equipment include:
The Kalasalingam-Summer Student’s Visiting Internship Program (SSVIP) of one month with stipend is designed to enhance awareness and interest in high quality academic research among young Engineering, Sciences and Technology students through a goal-oriented summer mini project undertaken at the Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education, Krishnankoil. The selected participants will work on a specific project in association with the faculty members and scientists of various Research Centres in Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education. At the end of the programme, each student presents a short seminar and submits a report on the project carried out. The outcome of their research will be published as a research paper if the results are interesting and worthy.
The Center for Biotechnology at Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education (KARE) is the research arm of the Department of Biotechnology, which was established in the year 2002. The centre carries out research in diverse fields of biotechnology that have an impact on human welfare. Currently, research at the Center for Biotechnology focuses on Infectious and Inflammatory Diseases, Bioprocess Engineering, Neurophysiology, Plant Biotechnology, Environmental Engineering and Animal Biotechnology. The centre offers a doctoral program in Biotechnology. The vision of the centre for the next ten years is to transform the centre into a world-class research hub. The following are the plans for the next decade.
