ICSIMMA2026

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SUSTAINABLE INNOVATION IN MATERIALS, MANUFACTURING AND AUTOMATION (ICSIMMA2026)

March 26 – 27, 2026

Organized by

DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY

Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education (KARE), formerly known as Arulmigu Kalasalingam College of Engineering, was established in 1984 by the visionary Kalasalingam Anandam Ammal Charities. Nestled at the foothills of the scenic Western Ghats, the institution was conferred with the status of "Deemed to be University" in 2006. For over three decades, KARE has been dedicated to providing quality education, catering to students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. The institution offers a wide spectrum of academic programs, including undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), and doctoral (Ph.D.) degrees across various disciplines. Notably, KARE is the first institution in India to launch a unique B.Tech program in engineering specifically designed for students with speech and hearing impairments, reinforcing its commitment to inclusive education.

In recognition of its academic excellence, KARE was accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with an 'A++' grade under third cycle. Additionally, major undergraduate and postgraduate programs have received Tier-1 accreditation from the National Board of Accreditation (NBA).
The institution is actively engaged in research and innovation. It has received funding from the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and other Agencies such as DRDO, DAE, ISRO, etc. KARE has Interdisciplinary Research Center (IRC) is equipped with state-of-the-art instruments supporting cutting-edge research in materials science and life sciences. KARE provides extensive residential facilities through multi-storied hostels that accommodate thousands of students. Significant investments have been made to develop world-class infrastructure, including an Olympic-standard swimming pool and an indoor sports auditorium. The university also places great emphasis on both intramural and extramural activities, fostering the holistic development of its students.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, one of the oldest and most esteemed departments of the institute, is committed to delivering a robust teaching–learning experience supported by state-of-the-art laboratory facilities. The department offers a comprehensive B.Tech programme in Mechanical Engineering along with various
postgraduate (PG) programmes tailored to meet the evolving needs of academia and industry. The curriculum is rigorous and industry-relevant, attracting highly meritorious students from across the country. The department continually strives for excellence in education, research, and community service. It engages in academic and industry-oriented research, consultancy services, and initiatives that contribute to societal development.

As part of the DST-FIST (Fund for Improvement of S&T Infrastructure in Universities & Higher Educational Institutions) programme under Level 1, the department has established several advanced laboratories, including the Materials Processing Laboratory, Advanced Machining and Measurement Laboratory, and Machine
Dynamics and Condition Monitoring Laboratory. These facilities provide cutting-edge infrastructure for both academic learning and high-level research.

The department also houses specialized research centers such as the Centre for Composite Materials, Centre for Surface Engineering and the facilities Thermal Studies. It is actively involved in funded research projects in diverse areas including optimization studies, composite materials, advanced machining, supersonic flow,
heat transfer, and CO₂ sequestration. Equipped with modern laboratories and workshop facilities featuring ultra-modern equipment, the department supports research and practical learning in all key areas of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. It also extends its facilities and expertise to students from other departments to support their academic and research needs.

Graduates from both undergraduate and postgraduate programs are well-placed in leading industries and globally recognized research institutions. The department hosts vibrant student chapters of major professional organizations such as the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and the National Safety Council (NSC) India,
providing students with an international platform for innovation, leadership, and skill development. In addition, the department maintains a dynamic Intellectual Property
Rights (IPR) and Patent Coordination Cell, which supports students and faculty in protecting and commercializing their innovations.
