Facilities

Library

The Kalasalingam University has an air-conditioned library with the seating capacity of 350. Library has 60,680 volumes in engineering, sciences, and management. The Library subscribes to print versions of 594 Journals and magazines out of which 468 are international journals. Library subscribes to most of the leading national and international technical and general magazines Library subscribes to online journals of IEEE & Science Direct, ASME and ASCE. 1782 CD/DVDs and 250 Audio-Visual Resources cassettes are there in the digital library section. Library has an audio-video room for students to learn at their own pace. 3210 back volumes of journals and 2950 project reports are kept in the reference section. Students are issued 3 readers tickets for borrowing books, CDs, journals or magazines.

The library is provided with library automation system with four Pentium computers in a network under client-server architecture. Multi-user software for library automation is available for issue, searching, administration, and reference facility for all the users. Library is in the process of developing databases for e.questions and e.syllabus. Library staff is engaged in colleting relevant details from the dailies and reports to prepare booklets, which enables the users to attend the forth coming competitions.

 
Hostels

 
Kalasalingam University Hostels provide good and safe facilities of lodging and boarding to cater to the needs of outstation students. The Vice-chancellor is the Ex-Officio Warden of all hostels and he is assisted by Deputy Wardens and Assistant Wardens in the day to day running of the hostels.

 

The following facilities are provided in the hostels: -

Well-furnished Convenient rooms

Mineral water is supplied in the hostels for drinking purposes

Well-equipped Public Addressing System in all the hostels

Each hostel is provided with a spacious dining hall with adequate and comfortable furniture and kitchen with Steam Cooking facilities

Each hostel is provided with Water-coolers

Uninterrupted supply of water and electricity

Each room in the hostel is supplied with an English daily to improve their reading habits and General Knowledge

Each hostel is provided with recreation halls for Television viewing

Each hostel is provided with a Library with adequate number of magazines, journals, Books related to the preparation of competitive exams like GRE, GATE, etc

Assistant Wardens are available for consultation and guidance for the benefit of the students

A dispensary provides medical aid to the hostellers, manned by two doctors, who attend on alternate days.

Van facilities are available for 24 hours to meet the emergency needs of the hostellers

 
Sports and Games Department

The Sports and Games department has an International Standard Athletic Track of 400m with 8 Lanes. Athlete track is fully equipped with accessories like 80 hurdles, Pole-vault, high jump mat and other accessories for running, jumping, throwing, etc. The other sports facilities with the department are:

Transport Facilities

The University has a fleet of 17 buses and two vans to transport students and staff members. The bus terminuses include Krishnankoil, Srivilliputtur, Rajapalayam, Sivakasi, Madurai, Watrap, and College campus. Besides the regular scheduled trips, the facility is extended for occasions like after the college hour Special Coaching Classes, Visit to Local Industries, hospitals, NSS Camps, etc.
Auditorium
 

A sprawling auditorium with a capacity to seat around 1000 members at any one time is located in the campus. It is named Dr KS Krishnan auditorium after the renowned scientist from this area. All departmental and college level functions are held in this auditorium.

Appreciating the son of the soil, the renowned Physicist and student of Sir.C.V.Raman, Dr.K.S.Krishnan’s statue was unveiled by Dr. R. Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Advisor, Government of India in the presence of Dr. K. Venkata subramaniam, Member union planning commission, Dr. V. S.Ramamoorthy, Secretary Dept of science and technology, Government of India.

 

 

Air-condition Conference Halls
 
The University has two numbers of well-furnished conference halls; one with seating capacity of 40 and another with a seating capacity 200. Both are air conditioned and equipped with audio and video systems
 
Seminar Hall
 
The University has a centrally air-conditioned Seminar Hall with the seating capacity of 350 persons. This hall is equipped with audio and video systems.
 
 

National Service Scheme (NSS)

The detailed activities of NSS are:

Enrollment of the interested first year B.Tech students.
Conduct of orientation program to the newly enrolled students.
Conduct of regular classes once in a week for doing campus cleaning & beautification, tree plantation program, and other awareness programs.
Conduct of blood grouping camp for all first year students.
Participation in various training programs organized by other institutions/organizations.
Conduct of ten-day NSS special camps in nearby villages.
Participation in the intercollegiate camp organized by other institutions.
Conduct of one-day camps at nearby places.
Participation of social service activities like crowd controlling, traffic controlling, Govt. service (hospitals, rehabilitation centers), etc.
Assistance in all the college functions.

National Cadet Corps (NCC)

NCC Senior Division (SD) sub-unit of 4 Tamil Nadu Engr Coy NCC Unit was started in November 2003 at AKCE and 52 cadets were enrolled.

In January 2004, the NCC Senior Wing (SW), AKCE, Sub-Unit of 2 Tamil Nadu Girls Bn NCC Unit was started and 26 cadets were enrolled.

In January 2005, the NCC SW was attached to 4 TN Engr Coy NCC Unit and 52 cadets were enrolled.

Regimental details

A total of 104 cadets including boys and girls are on roll in AKCE Sub-unit.

Nominal Roll

At present there are: 45 SD cadets in 3rd year NCC.
07 SD cadets in 2nd year NCC.
52 SW cadets in 2nd year NCC.

Dr. G. Manivannan, Prof. & Head, Department of English, Kalasalingam University, the Care-taker of NCC, Kalasalingam University Sub-unit, attended the interview before the Selection Board Committee for selection of SD ANO on 27 April 2004 and was selected for the post.

Students are encouraged to enroll in NCC. College is having NCC unit attached to 4 Tamil Nadu Engineers Coy NCC, Madurai Unit. This unit was started in November 2003.

A total of 104 cadets including boys and girls are on roll in Kalasalingam University Sub-unit.

• 33 cadets in 2nd year NCC
• 26 cadets in 1st year NCC

All the 45 cadets of the third year have passed the NCC ‘C’ Certificate examination. 33 Cadets of the second year have appeared and passed the NCC ‘B’ Certificate examination.

A 12-day combined annual training camps ‘CATC2004’ and ‘CATC2005’ were conducted in the College campus. A total of 800 cadets from 11 schools and 3 colleges attended the camps. During the camp screening and selection of cadets to participate in the Republic Day Parade January 2006 at New Delhi was done.

Dr. G. Manivannan, Senior Lecturer, Department of English, AKCE is the Care-taker of NCC Sub-unit at Kalasalingam University.

Fine Arts Association

The university Fine Arts Association activities are controlled and monitored by the Dean (Student Affairs). Activities of this association are:
Participating in Seminars/Paper presentations
Participating in Cultural & Fine Arts competitions
Organizing College Day, Cultural Day and Sports Day functions


Music Club

Student office bearers nominated by the vice-chancellorl / Director–Student Affairs coordinate the activities of the orchestra wing. The activities are:

Conducting musical training programs for students.
Participating in the cultural programs conducted by various organizations/institutions.
Performing guest programs during college day/cultural day/other important college functions.

Staff Housing & Guest Houses

The University is having one building for staff housing and two buildings for Guest house

 

Guest House
