During recent years,
the nature of the Hearing Impaired students' elementary and high school
experiences changed
many more impaired
students leaving high school today (compared to 10
years ago) and have attended local educational programs
where
they are more likely to have received some integration
with hearing students during academic instruction.
Though
there are a lot of high schools for hearing students,
there is a no separate higher secondary school that
offers science stream.
As a social
responsibility, our Chancellor "Kalvivallal" Thiru
T.Kalasalingam wants to start this innovative SIX-year
B.Tech program for hearing impaired students to enable
them to go for well-equipped and decent jobs in industries.
Kalasalingam University (KLU) represents the nation's
first effort to educate the hearing impaired students
within an Engineering University setup planned principally
for hearing students. We train these people to adopt
the current changes in the industries and excel themselves
on par with regular graduates.
The main
objective of this program begins with a barrier-free
communication
environment. The communication environment
at KLU gives hearing impaired students freedom
to focus on the joy and business of learning and to
engage in
a high degree of interaction with classmates
and professors, both in and out of the classroom.
